The Crenshaw School welcomes students from other countries. Crenshaw is an approved I-17 school and has an established and successful international program. Our small classes and nurturing school community offer international students a supportive and stimulating environment in which to further their general education while expanding their skills in English. Immersion in the American culture enriches both the international student and Crenshaw’s American students. The Coordinator of the International Student Program works closely with each student and family to develop an individualized schedule. Our international students are placed in mainstreamed classes in several of the content areas while receiving English as a Second Language support and instruction.
International students enter our program in several ways. Some students discover Crenshaw through consultants in their native land. Others come from families who recently moved into the area, students in professional sports or from looking for schools via the Internet. Regardless of how they find Crenshaw, the ISP can offer support in several ways:
1. Provision of English as a Second Language classes.
2. Assistance and advice regarding I-20 forms and visas.
3. Records maintenance through the SEVIS program.
For admission to The Crenshaw School and the International Students Program, Crenshaw’s Admission office needs to have the International Student Admission Packet completed and returned.
The Crenshaw School is committed to providing solutions to the educational challenges facing students whose lifestyles or careers are incompatible with traditional classrooms and methods.
The Private Instruction Division is designed to meet the needs of students balancing their education with careers in the performing arts or athletics as well as students who prefer a more personalized and flexible education at home, at school, or while traveling. The Crenshaw School has been providing a quality alternative to a traditional school environment in on-location settings for over 10 years.
The Private Instruction Division was created with the belief that:
All students should receive a high quality education administered by caring and competent teachers. Families should not have to choose between allowing their children to pursue personal or professional aspirations and providing an opportunity for academic achievement.
All students should have access to a course of study that will prepare them for the colleges of their choice. Just as Plato and George Washington were schooled by private tutors, we provide teachers who educate students one-on-one in their home, workplace or wherever they may require it. This model of education outside the traditional classroom is ideal for families with various lifestyles or with unique situations such as:
- Children of celebrities
- Children of high profile executives
- Parents who are away from home much of the time and want their children with them
- Parents who want a customized educational curriculum for their children
- Professional children who are young entrepreneurs or are pursuing or have careers in entertainment and/or sports
For the Private Instruction Division, Crenshaw hires teachers to match the student’s educational needs and learning style. We work around the family’s schedule providing educational arrangements for finite time periods or on an ongoing basis; we offer complete flexibility in scheduling. In essence, school travels to and with the student rather than the other way around. The educational program provides targeted academic attention with a specific focus on the needs of that one child, as opposed to traditional school systems where teachers must adapt their curriculum for an entire classroom of children with differing learning styles.
Brenda Crenshaw, founder, wanted to help educate students who were struggling in the traditional classroom setting. She realized that traditional education was not working for some students. Fresh Start ™ is a program for young people who may have become disenfranchised from public or private schools for a variety of reasons, but have since made a positive decision to finish their educations. Students work one-on-one with a teacher.
Fresh Start™ enables students who may not have had the opportunity to graduate to earn a high-school diploma and advance to college. The Fresh Start™ program attracts more families looking for a solution, or alternative, for students who are not served by traditional schooling.
The Fresh Start™ program seeks to increase student achievement enough to enable the student to return to a traditional classroom setting prepared to graduate, or graduate directly from the Fresh Start™ program. The Crenshaw School’s specially chosen curriculum is designed to promote self-learning in a collegial atmosphere, preparing students for a number of life options. Each student attends the program in a private and confidential setting. What was once a source of anguish and dread will become a mark of accomplishment and a source of new-found confidence.
Crenshaw makes sure that students are academically equipped to go to any college of their choosing. From technical schools to Ivy League universities; a career as a professional athlete or an entertainer, whatever path is chosen, graduates leave The Crenshaw School with self-confidence and a solid academic foundation.
Our students excel in many academic areas. However, there are students who may need specific help in a certain subject area, as identified on their report card. The student is matched with a resource and given an academic goal where progress can be tracked with help from the child’s teacher.
Students who need additional support can work one-on-one or in a very small group setting during the school day to remediate deficits in the core areas or reading, writing or math, or to strengthen concepts taught in the classroom. The cost of the Promise Program ™ is separate from tuition. For additional information on this program, please contact the Admissions office.
