Regular school attendance is mandatory. On a daily basis, student absences will be recorded as unexcused. In order to have a student’s absence excused, the parent or guardian must call or e-mail the school by 1:00 P.M on the day of the absence and provide the reason. If a prior arrangement needs to be made, the parent must notify the office via email or phone. All attendance issues and all attendance emails should be sent to the office at the following address, NOT via the teacher. State Law requires students have no more than 10 unexcused absences within a 90 Day period or 5 unexcused absences within a calendar month.
Please send all e-mails concerning attendance to email@example.com
- When a student is absent, all work will be made available through Plusportals. Please contact the office if you need assistance accessing your account.
- Assignments are posted daily by the teachers.
Excused Absences include:
- Illness or injury
- Illness or death of a member of the student’s family
- Recognized religious holidays
- Pre-Arranged absences of educational value with the administration’s approval.
EFFECTS OF ABSENCES
Rules set by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles:
Students with 15 or more unexcused absences in a 90-day period will have their Driver’s License suspended, cannot be issued a learner’s permit, and cannot become a licensed driver until their 18th birthday.
REQUIRED MEETINGS FOR STUDENTS WITH EXCESSIVE ABSENCES
A student with five (5) or more absences in a term (9 weeks) will be called for a meeting with an Administrator.
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS WITH EXCESSIVE ABSENCES
A student with seven (7) or more absences in a term (9 weeks) must meet course competencies and may be required to take a written competency test to receive a passing grade.
Any student leaving campus for any reason must sign out at the office. The parent or guardian must physically sign out their child or have called and spoken with appropriate personnel. If the student returns the same day, the student must sign in at the attendance office before reporting to class.
Once again, for Pre-Arranged absences, you must notify the office via email, by phone, or a Pre-Arranged Absence form. Please do not give the information to office personnel during car line or somewhere on the run. Office personnel will not be able to record the absence immediately and the information may not reach correct personnel.
TARDIES: Students will receive a detention after three Unexcused Tardies. Tardies are excused by a note from the Doctor or Dentist.
