Personal Computer & Mobile Device Policy

Students who bring a computer or mobile device of their own to school to use in class must comply with the following policy. Students agree to follow The Crenshaw School’s Policy when using their own computers and mobile devices in the building. Staff, students, and other users of their own computers and mobile devices agree to abide by all regulations and expectations for appropriate use applying to school technology including the following:

  1. Use of any device must be in support of education and research.
  2. Students are permitted to use personal devices only as instructed by and during times when supervised by staff.
  3. Students must use The Crenshaw School’s filtered wireless network while working online in school. Anyone found not using the filtered wireless network will be subject to disciplinary action.
  4. Personal devices may not be used to record, transmit or publish images or video recorded at school without a teacher’s written permission and the written permission of all students, student’s parents, teachers and staff in the photo or video.
  5. Students or Parents may not request social media invitations of school staff or volunteers and/or publish any images, videos, or voice recordings without expressed permission of the staff member/volunteer. This is always at the discretion of Administration.
  6. School personnel will not be expected to provide technical support for student devices.
  7. Personal devices are brought to school at the students’ and parents’ own risk. The school assumes no responsibility for student devices.
  8. If a students choose to bring their cell phone to school, students are required to check in their phones when coming to school and should retrieve their phone upon dismissal. Personal phones/devices are not allowed for calls/texts/emails during the day.  If there is an emergency, we never refuse a student to use the school phone.  Please be aware that students bring their phones at their own risk.  If their phone is lost or damaged during the day, the school is not liable.  Students who do not leave their phones with the office will be subject disciplinary action.
  9. Use of the network to engage in cyberbullying is prohibited.
  10. The Crenshaw School will use technology protection measures (Internet filters) to help prevent users from accessing inappropriate information on the Internet.
  11. The Crenshaw School reserves the right to log Internet use.
  12. The Crenshaw School reserves the right to inspect a personal device should there be reason to believe that a user has violated policy.
  13. Violators of the policy described above risk losing computer privileges on a temporary or permanent basis, suffering disciplinary action, and facing possible prosecution for violation of local, state and federal laws.
